But quite honestly I believe we are too compassionate here.
One of the things I like about Paganism is the balance that is promoted between being giving to others and being able to not be taken advantage of. Some religions teach that compassion is always a good thing while the truth is somewhere in the middle.
I thought this was a great episode, Jeff! I was especially moved by your discussion of the fact that, as our population ages, there will be more and more need for pagans who can minister to those who are sick, or dying, or elderly.
I agree completely, and in fact have several follow-up questions for you. First, if one feels drawn to that kind of work, with those who are ill, or elderly, or dying, where might one go to learn more? Are there certain books or courses that would be especially helpful (pagan or non)?
Does the ATC offer classes geared toward this kind of training? Are there any skills that are especially useful (reiki, energy work, etc.)? Any deities that would help one in this kind of service, or that would be good to call on in service of the sick or dying? What kind of pagan practices can be conducted in a hospital setting?
Thank you for a great podcast!
